Hi,
I'm looking for my 8 gg father Obadiah/Abiah/Abia/Abijah Edwards. The
time period that you have listed (1640) fits the known facts about this
guy. For 25 years I've been trying to find him.
We know the following:
In 1669 he was listed on a Shrewsbury, Monmouth, New Jersey tax list.
In 1688 He ran the sloop "Desire" between Shrewsbury, Monmouth County,
NJ and New York.
1691 & 1700: He was a grand juror in Monmouth COunty, New Jersey.
Aug 28, 1701 Confirmation of grant to Abiah Edwards of Shrewsbury,
shipwright, "in full of his first and second dividend as one of the
Proprietors" of 118 acres in Monmouth County, formerly belonging to
Sarah Reape.
Aug 29, 1710 Abia Edwards witness to a will of near neighbor Nathaniel
Cammick.
Jan 17, 1714-15 Abiah Edwards of Shrewsbury, Monmouth, NJ, yeoman, made
his will, proved Feb 24, 1714-15. He mentions his wife: Elizabeth
Edwards, son Phillip Edwards, daughter's Naomi, the wife of John Curlis
and her children James and John Curlis, daughter Elizabeth Brown, and
her daughter Naomi Brown, executors: his wife and son Phillip.
Jan 27th 1714-15: The inventory of the estate was taken: F119-3-7 1/2
including a scow worth F 27.
He had what we think was a son Jonathan Edwards down in Notthingham,
Chester County, Pennsylvania. Mary Sutton may have been his mother.
Questions:
1.Were would I find the early passenger list of the sloop "Desire"
between Shrewbury, and New York?
2. What were the geographical boundries of Radnor, Glamorgan, and
Montgomery Wales in the middle to late 1600's?
3. He is listed as a shipwright. Where would I be able to find documents
relating to colonial shipwrights in Wales?
Any help would be appreciated. I seem to be hitting many brick walls.
Thanks Karen
