This is a long shot, but here goes:
Does anyone have ancestors with the first name of Farniford, Farnifold,
or Ferniford?
This name shows up with my Edwards family where I have hit a brick wall.
My gggrandfather was William EDWARDS, b 1822 Montgomery County, GA. He
had a brother named Ferniford EDWARDS, b c1823, also Montgomery Co, GA.
I believe their sister was named Sarah who married Perryman MOODY in
Appling Co, GA.
Both William and Ferniford had sons named Ferniford, and that's where the
name ends.
Their parents were born in NC, and I believe them to be Isaac EDWARDS, b
c 1790-1800 and Rachel ?, b 1794.
The first name of Farniford shows up with about 12 different surnames in
the 1790 NC census with names such as WOOD, GREEN, and FIVEASH. For a
while I have surmised that Rachel could have been the daughter of a
Dempsey WOOD Sr, from NC who received a Revolutionary Pension. He along
with Isaac EDWARDS was living in Montgomery Co in the 1820's, and Isaac
acted as WOOD's attorney in some land transactions in Montgomery Co, GA.
I have also found the surname of FARNEFOLD listed in The General Armory
of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales by Sir Bernard Burke, C.B.,
L.L.D., Ulster King of Arms. Although the name is listed with the
description of the coat of arms, there is no information on where this
name is from. I suspect Wales.
If anyone has any information at all concerning this name, please reply.
Tonia Edwards
