This Rev. Jonathan EDWARDS is the famous minister of Puritan New
England. You will find him in a n y encyclopedia as a philosopher,
preacher, revivalist and theologian.
He was the leading intellectual figure in colonial America.
b. East Windsor, CT & he was from many forefathers who had been
Congregational ministers. At age entered Yale U at age 13 & grad age 17.
1726 he was asst't pastor
of a congregation at Northhampton, MA. The chief pastor was his
grandfather,Solomon STODDARD, on the maternal side - also a famous
Congregational pastor.
After pastor Stoddard died 1729, Jonathan EDWARDS took his place.
During the period 1730s - 1740s his sermons became a series that
inspired movements among New Englanders. These lectures were to become
known as the
Great Awakening. This momentum changed many religious practices via the
lecltures he inspired. Radicals and conservatives both attacked him for
his teachings.

Jon. Edwards 1751 - 1757 Jon. Edwards served as a missionary among the
Indian Settlement Stockbridge MA. It was there that he wrote his
Freedom of Will (1754), a philosophical writing. In this work he wrote
