Searching for information about James Mathew EDWARDS, born ca 1837, probably
in KY, died Jan. 7, 1871 or 1872 in New Minden, Washington Co., IL, married
Harriet Elizabeth STRICKLIN, Feb. 10, 1859, Saline Co., IL, she born March 10,
1844, Saline Co., IL, died April 11, 1911, Posey, Clinton Co., IL. She
married 2) Asa “Ace” TAYLOR (1839-1922), Nov. 22, 1873, Clinton Co., IL.
Mathew and Harriet had one child, James Lawkin EDWARDS, born Dec. 9, 1861,
Randolph Co., IL, died July 2, 1954, Los Angeles Co., CA, married Laura
Katherine HASSON (1862-1904), Oct. 12, 1880, Irving, Montgomery Co., IL.
James Mathew EDWARDS served with his brother-in-law, James Monroe STRICKLIN,
in Co. G, 60th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted Jan. 1, 1862, and received a
disability discharge Sep. 27, 1862. Nothing is known of him before his
marriage or from the time of his discharge until his death. Information about his
death and burial was taken from a Civil War pension application filed by his
son years later.
