Pam and Mike,

It is my opinion that the PG Co. Aldridges and those of Dinwiddie are
difinitely connected, also the Eldridges of Isle of Wight Co. This
supposition is based on geography and collateral family associations.

I believe that the county line between PG Co. and Dinwiddie have been
resurveyed and moved several times since 1752 when Dinwiddie became a county.

A cousin sent me these directions to the Dinwiddie Aldridge graveyard: 1.6
mi. east of Reams,(Ream's Sation on the Norfolk and Western, now CSX
railroad) VA on Rte 6 (606), thence .2 miles north on Rte 622, thence 100
yards west of Rte 622. Owner Myra Young (no date given for ownership). Said
to be the burying ground of the Aldridges.

If these directions are followed they take you one mile east of the
PG/Dinwiddie county line into Prince George Co.

In the 1815 Dinwiddie Tax List Burwell Aldridge and Elcey Aldridge are listed
as seperate land owners, but both are listed as owning property on the Prince
George County line 18 miles east of the Dinwiddie Court House. That direction
and distance is four miles inside of modern day PG Co.

As far as family connections go:

1 Mar 1743 William Aldridge-Prince George Co. purchased 400a from the Crown
for the sum of 40 schillings on the north side of Wirwick(Warwick) Swamp and
on both sides of Peter Leaths path.

16 June 1743 Thomas Eldridge- Prince George Co. 1772a on the north side of
Warwick Swamp ajoining Henry Gee.

28 August 1731 Thomas Eldridge and Peter Leath-Prince George Co. 248a. On
both sides
the upper Rocky Run of Stoney Creek. (Stoney Creek is in the southern and
western parts of modern day Dinwiddie)

10 July 1755 Charles Leath-Prince George Co. 65a on the Rowanty Swamp
adjoining the county line. (Rowanty Creek flows into Rowanty Swamp and the
last large holding of land belonging to Bennett , then later Benjamin
Aldridge was on Rowanty Cr. which is in Dinwiddie's southern part.

I have much, much more on the Leaths and Aldridge holdings, but the pattern
is the the county lines were very fluid or unsurveyed and the Aldridges and
Eldridges lived in both Prince George and Dinwiddie Co. The connectiom to the
Leath family is unknown, but it continued for another hundred years. In the
1850 US census my ggandfather was living with a Leath family in W.Petersburg.
