ARRIVAL of a CALIFORNIA PARTY -- A party, which left California on the 5th of
March, had safely arrived at Great Salt Lake City. It included Messrs. Howard
EGAN, Thurston LARSON and U. FRANCE, of Utah; William FALL, Marysville, Cal.,
and Elder Orson K. WHITNEY, late from his mission to the Sandwich Islands.

Greetings, kinfolk!

The above could be the Captain HOWARD EGAN who is to this day well known in
Utah - somewhere I have a book with many references to him. I believe he was
one of Brigham Young's original party (that selected the "place" where the
group settled). Later he was involved with the Pony Express - and remained
active in SLC politics, etc. A number of his descendants are still in SLC and
attended the rally held there some years ago. (They may even be reading this
post, and if so please excuse my faulty memory!)

If you try the search words "Howard Egan" [in quotes] and UTAH on Google, I
think you will get a buncha stuff. In the meantime, thank you from all of us
for this interesting snippet from Stockton California.
