Mary, it was sweet of you to reply. Because I don't know how
long you've been researching, and because there are some on
this list that are new to geneaology, I thought I'd post a
quick warning about using familysearch.com.
The information at this website can be handy if you need a
quick clue for a location or possible family. Beyond that, the
information is useless! Tonight I took your advice and clicked
on just to see what they said about Ben Hamilton and led myself
around to my Elliot Williams family. Elliot was listed as
having Celia or her sister Nancy Bell Hill as a wife. Since I
descend from both sisters and have Nancy Bell Hill in my dad's
Bible, I can tell you how wrong that is. Nancy married Wallace
W. Brown. She is buried beside him behind the Paint Valley
church in Relief feet away from my grgrgrandfather Edward W.
Brown and my grgrandfather Edward Lewis Brown. The strange
part is, I know that the information listed came from me in a
roundabout way because it contains family members that only my
aunt and I have found and researched (someone shared my
information) but it got turned around before it got to the LDS
computers (something like that old game "telephone")
Another example: It lists my grgrgrandad's brother as the
brother of my grgrgranddad's grgrandfather. (I'm talking about
Samuel Berry Justice's brother, Timothy, listed as a brother to
John Justice, grgrandfather of Samuel and Timothy.) With a
quick keystroke, the information can get very jumbled. So,
don't rely on it!
My information is confusing enough as it is with my
grandparents being 4th cousin, his parents being 3rd, 4th and
4th cousins, etc.... without making it worse! <g>
You might know this already but as I said, some probably
don't so I thought I'd better post just in case.
