Hello, Di -
Thanks for getting back in touch. My mother has just been to stay over
Christmas so I was able to ask her more about her family. Her father, Thomas
Elliffe, was born in the US in 1894 in (she thinks) April of that year, and
his mohter's maiden name was Kearns (an Irish name). Tom married in New York
in 1919 - my mother's mother's maiden name was Van Wickle (Dutch!), first name
Grace. My mother, Gloria, was born in Bronx/Westchester in July 1923
(apparently after the actress Gloria Swanson, who was starring in a picture
showing in NY that year!) Tom and Grace separated in the mid-1920s, and he
remarried in 1929 or thereabouts; his second wife's first name was Canning.
They had no children.
My mum will get me more information which will help to add to your home page -
it would be interesting to find out if we share an ancestry.
I have looked at Rootsweb and frankly can't make anything of it - I find the
site very hard to navigate. If you know of any shortcuts to help me find my
way around please let me in on the secret!
Hope to hear from you soon. Happy New Year in the meantime.
