Hi Susan

I have come across marriage entries in Parish Registers after 1837 where no
fathers name is given. Some of these are cases where the marrying party was
illegitimate, so presumably did not know who their father was (or didn't
want to say). But not in all cases. I also have a marriage certificate from
the GRO from 1903 in which no fathers name is given - in this case the
father had died when the groom was 16. Perhaps he was asked who his father
was, misunderstood and said he had no father, hence the form was left blank.

Which doesn't really help you, does it? Sorry <grin>
