Another TURNER Black Country connection. Any possible connection?
I have Jane TURNER, who, according to the IGI was chr 2 Apr 1808,
Hungerford, Berkshire, d/o John & Jane TURNER. But the Hungerford PRs give
the additional information that Jane was d/o John & Jane TURNER of the
Stafford Militia. Can aanybody help me to trace these Militia records
please?
Jane TURNER married David JONES, 2 Aug 1828, St Peter, Wolverhampton, STS.
Their only daughter, Jane JONES was born in Oldbury, WOR (near the West
Bromwich, STS border) 21 Aug 1841, and married Isaiah ASTON, 21 Apr 1862 in
Oldbury.
Isaiah ASTON died in September 1862, when Jane was pregnant with her only
child. William Isaiah ASTON was born in West Bromwich, 16 Feb 1863.
Jane remarried Thomas PERKS, 9 Oct 1865, in West Bromwich, STS and in 1879
Thomas & Jane PERKS and William Isaiah ASTON emigrated to New Zealand where
they settled in Ashburton, Canterbury.
I'd love to find where in Staffs John TURNER may have come from. Any help
or connections gratefully received.
Kind regards
Blanche Charles

Joining the migration trail
My great grandfather REUBEN TURNER born 1863, Lower Gornal
youngest child of THOMAS TURNER & RACHEL FELLOWS
(JOSEPH-1851, BENJAMIN-1853, BETSY M-1856, JOHN-1858, JOSHUA-1860)
all dates approximate.
On 1881 census he is a coal miner lodging with the family of Joseph
Westwood at Green Heath, Cannock
On 10 March 1885 he married HANNAH REANEY at the parish church of Sheffield
& they
made their home at Orchard Lane Beighton, Derbyshire. They had 4 children
WILLIS, RAYMOND, JOSEPH & ELSIE.
Sadly REUBEN died aged 33 in 1897 almost 11 months after an accident at
Holbrook Colliery.
I have no clues as to why Reuben made the journey to Sheffield other than
work - I don't know of any relatives in the area. How he and Hannah met is
a mystery I would love to solve.
