Subject: [ENG-BUCK] an old christmas custom
Date: Thu, 7 Jun 2001 11:06:29 EDT
One of my interests is in the old custom of Christmas Mumming. This was a
short play taken round the private and public houses, often with singing and
dances. Most communities had their team of mummers during the 19th century,
but not many names survive. I would be delighted to hear from anybody
researching the following :
BOARSTALL - Thomas Nappin (born ca1856), George Honor (ca1867), John Kirby
(ca1877), George Jackman (ca1881), and Thomas Kirby (ca1883)
QUAINTON - William Franklin (1866), George Franklin (1871), Thomas Beckett,
and Benjamin Briscoe
STEEPLE CLAYDON - John Jennings (1850)
WHEELER END, WEST WYCOMBE - Abel Collins (1854)
WORMINGHALL - James Edwin Bedding (1864), and Thomas Crick (1869)
Good luck with the new list.
