I found a James P. Twiss on the index for the 1861 census, enumerated at
Cambridge St. Andrew the Less. His age is given as 63, indicating he was
born in 1798.

Have you checked the IGI on www.familysearch.org ?

I found the following. While it may be the church of the wife's family, he
may also be from Cambridge. I found several children born to this couple on
the Cambridge Family History Baptismal index. Just put in surname Twiss.

Hi all
I have just joined this list after following my TWISS family from
Norfolk. I would be very grateful if anyone can help me find if
these three men are related, they are all born Cambridge and their
birth dates suggest they could be brothers. So far I have not found
parents for any of them.
William C Twiss born about 1802, Rector of Wrestlingham Bedfordshire
in 1871.
George Joseph Twiss born about 1804, a Brewer in Cambridge in 1851.
James Peterson Twiss born about 1808, an Attorney at Great Shelford
in 1841 & 1851, possibly died 1855.
