Hello listers.

Reposting my interests.

I am currently researching John MATTHEWS boatman, born St Phillips, Birmingham circa 1792. I have very little on his time in Oxford, other than the fact by 1822 he moved to the Hamel in the St Thomas parish of Oxford. Where he married a Sarah HANDS on 7 Aug 1822 at St Thomas, Oxford.

They had the following children all baptised at at St.Thomas:

1822 Sep 29 - Hannah (b.Sep 9), of John & Sarah MATTHEWS, boatman.
1825 Mar 20 - Elizabeth, --ditto--
1826 Aug 20 - John, --ditto--
1827 Dec 23 - Anne, --ditto--
1830 Feb 18 - George, --ditto--
1832 July15 - Sarah Anne --ditto--

On 17 Aug 1840 the burial of John MATTHEWS aged 48 was recorded at
St.Thomas. George MATTHEWS died 2 September 1830.

The 1841 Census has this entry for The Hamel, St.Thomas:

MATTHEWS, Sarah, 35,
MATTHEWS, John, 15,
MATTHEWS, Sarah, 9,

By 1851 John Jnr was had moved to London and was workingg as a Porter for Pickfords.

If any one has links to this family or any info with regards their time in Oxford , I would love to hear from you.

Steve
