Hi Mark
Can't always promise to be this quick, but I happened to have the 1857 Post
Office Directory with me so you can have this extract pdq!
1857 Post Office Directory of Cheshire
CALDY (under West Kirby)
Barton Richard, esq. Caldy manor
Booth John, farmer & butcher
Evans Daniel, farmer
Johnson John, blacksmith
Realey Josph. farmer, shopkpr. & postmastr.
Strong William, farmer
Wharton John, beer retailer
Post Office - Joseph Realey, postmaster. Letters arrive from Birkenhead at past 9 a.m; dispatched at 4 p.m.
Barton's School, James Etchells, master; Mrs. Mary Kirkpatrick, mistress
I'm extracting pubs etc. from the 1857 directory and the 1861 Mawdsley one at the
moment for the Pubs Index project, but will move on to the various Caldy extracts
for you thereafter (liable to be next month as I'm off on holiday shortly). The
1861 one is arranged alphabetically by surname for the whole Wirral and also by
trade, but not by village etc. so will take a little longer than 1857!
I've seen your various postings on the CHESHIRE list - I'm full of admiration for
what you're doing for Caldy!
Sheila
