Subject: [Redruth] Pasties?

Just wondering if pasties are still popular in Cornwall, In the upper
peninsula of Michigan where we live, they are still quite popular. Especially in the
Marquette County area, where iron ore was discovered in the 1800s. I grew up
in what was called "Cornish Town," A small community, made up of mostly Cornish
people who worked the very first iron ore pit. It was called the Jackson
Mine. The area is soon to be opened as a tourist attraction. Anyway, when I was
young in the 1940s I can still recall my grandmother, Laura Hampton Reichel
baking bread, 12 loafs at a time, making current cookies, suet pudding at
Christmas time, saffron buns and of course, pasties. There are many small shops along
the highways selling pasties, and they are starting to be seen in different
parts of the country. Long live the pasty.
A big Hello to all in Cornwall, especially to Redruth where my great
grandparents were born.
Best wishes from my wife,Lynne, and myself Paul R. Smith
