Hi Sue
Have you looked on http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/access/online.asp and tried
the Unassisted shipping records
instead of just putting Mutton try M*tton and it will give a list of
variations, if you do find a record you may be able to look at the original
records and see if the Captain reports a death or sickness aboard the ship I
have listed just two of the records, but please donot take the age as gosple
as I think there may have been a age limited. Maybe someone can correct me
there.
MITTON JULIA 42 DEC 1920 BENALLA B 938 005
MITTON JULIA I 7 DEC 1920 BENALLA B 938 005
Hope this helps Caroline AustaliaCheers

who is willing to look and see if there is a death on them please? I am
after a Julia Mutton born c1855 and living in Cornwall (Redruth, Camborne,
Illogen). The range is from Dec 1/4 1877 to Dec 1/4 1884. I believe I have
found her on the 1881 census (which would reduce the time frame), but I
could be in error.

and others have checked some different Aussie records (West Australia, South
Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales records
checked). This was done in case she died at sea and an Australian port was
the first port of call in which case I am led to believe that is where the
death would be reported . If this English search proves fruitless, then the
only conclusion I can come to is that the lady in question died at sea on
the way to Australia, and then it is anyone's guess what country it was
reported in.
