Dallas,
Thank you for your thoughtful and interesting response, and recommended
web sites, one I had not heard of the Cornish Migration Project. I also did
check the FreeCen web site with more "finds", and have had several who have
also offered web sites,
Thank you for the description of Redruth area when you and your wife made a
trip to England. It is always nice to hear about the area in which
ancestors have lived.
I will re-post again with another generation. Am so hoping to be in
contact with possible relatives that stayed behind in England with their
parents.
Someone kindly let me know that Elias Langdon died in the quarter of Oct,
Nov, and Dec of 1916 at age 57. He and his wife had as you can see 12
children.
Everything helps.
Thank you again
Kat
You may wish to check the following website to inquire if any of your
ancestors have been the Cornish Migration Project
www.chycor.co.uk/murdoch-house . They welcome inquiries though most of the emigrates recorded are the
ones migrating early.
The Redruth area was a top copper mining area of Cornwell. The landscape
when my wife and I visited in 2003 contains many abandoned smoke stalks
from the mines. The one next to the train station in Redruth has been
restored.
You may also want to check the censuses for Redruth which begin in 1841
and every ten years thereafter. I'm only familiar with the 1841 and 1851
census as my ancestor migrated in the mid-1850s. Both the 1841 and 1851
censuses have miner-copper frequently listed as the occupation.
Baptism and marriage records are on microfihle at the Cornwall Record
Office in Truro, Cornwall. You may wish to check www.familysearch.org to see if
the Family History Library has a copy of these microfihles that you can
order on loan through your local family history library.
Hope this helps,
Dallas Kent

Seeking information about Redruth history, were their mines back in the
1800's in that area. or kin for family tree and ancestors of
Elias Langdon b 1858
Elizabeth H. Reynolds b 1863
Children of Elias & Elizabeth H (Reynolds) Langdon
George Langdon born abt 1885
Emily Langdon
Clara Langdon
John Langdon b Feb 18, 1890
William H. Langdon
Charles F. Langdon (middle name might be Foster if so b. abt 1892
Ethel Langdon
Mary M. Langdon
Elias Langdon
Stanley N. Langdon
Ada Langdon
Charles H. Langdon
At least 3 sons migrated to Houghton County, Michigan to work in copper
mine as miners. Then all 3 sons after marrying 3 RULE (daughters of
Thomas
RULE born in England, and Mary Ann GLASSON born in England).
George Langdon migrated to Houghton County, Michigan about 1920, married
Anna B. RULE
Foster Langdon migrated to Houghton County, Michigan abt 1913, married
Violet RULE
John Langdon migrated to Houghton County, Michigan year of 1909, married
Edith RULE
John Langdon left South Hampton, England on April 17th, 1909, Ship was the
St. Louis, arrived in New York, New York on Apr 25, 1909. Destination
Calumet, Houghton County, Michigan. Calling or Occupation: Miner.
According
to manifest, the address looks like for Elias Langdon, his father, Tolous
(sp?) Place in Redruth.
Possibly this family worked in mines in Redruth, Cornwall, England; do not
know much about the area.
All 3 brothers migrated to Flint, Genesee County, Michigan, USA with their
wives and resided till their deaths. Their occupations were various in
the
Auto Industry, probably General Motors.
In the 1930 census in Flint, Michigan there is a possible 4th relative,
who
lived next door to Foster Langdon (probably this is Charles F. Langdon, as
his parents were according to marriage certificate Elias Langdon and
Elizabeth Reynolds), this 4th relative was
Thomas Langdon, who immigrated in 1923 according to 1930 census, his wife
Ellen naturalized in 1927, they were age 26 when got married in the USA,
Ellen was born in England. He became an Inspector in the Auto Company.
My Mom's sister married John Langdon & Edith Rule's son John Leslie
Langdon. I am assisting my cousin in locating their ancestors.
Must have been some kin who remained behind with their parents.
Thank you for any information you can provide.
