Subject: [CUMBRIA] You are cordially invited to a virtual Cumbrian pary

Hi gang
Over on the other Cumberland list - CUL - Sarah is having a Christmas party
on the 19th. She has said that anyone from this list is very welcome to
attend :-)

Some of you of course will know what I am talking about as I know you are
also subbed to CUL but for those that don't have a clue about this - here
goes:

The party is a virtual one and happens online. Party goers are virtually
calling in at the houses of those who join in for a bit of carol singing and
wassailing etc..The whole flavour of the party is to be "Cumbrian". You
bring your own food - we have lots of black pudding and rum butter already
so perhaps you could bring something different ;-)

Some people are bringing their great-great- great grandparents in the hope
that after a few virtual sherries they will spill the beans on a few family
secrets or knock down those brick walls!

Others are dressing up - and all of this gets described online. It will be
an all day party as we have attendees from all the time zones around the
world and we don't want anyone to miss out.

Remember this is a virtual world - and anything is possible :-)

It is a practical way to learn a bit of our history and about our ancestors
whilst having a bit of fun all the while. We can exchange recipes,
preferably those with a Cumbrian background - maybe your Cumbrian
great-grandma's gingerbread recipe, describe the get-ups we are wearing if
we chose fancy dress and generally "put meat on the bones" of the people we
all search for in archives.

The virtual party has been held before - the Black Country list have done it
and it's where Sarah got the idea from courtesy of Carol who is subbed to
both CUL and the Black country list.

So there you have it. Sarah and the other CUL listers who will be attending
will be make you all very welcome. If, meanwhile, you can't make your mind
up and need more info please get in touch off-list.

Cheers,
Marion
