Dear List,
I am hoping that someone will be able to tell me the history of
a Victorian (?) House in Grange on Sands now used as a research
station. I believe it is called MERLEWOOD House. I am interested in
the names of the people who had it built and when, and who the owners
have been since. My grandfather; whom I am unable to trace
gave his three sons names, some of which may be house or place names,
ie
Archibald Campbell Breadalbane Linwood. born NZ 1902.
Merlewood Alexander Alfred Wray Campbell Linwood. born NZ 1906.
Allerton Harley Rosslyn Campbell Linwood. born NZ 1909.
My Grandfather, Archibald Campbell Linwood was born about
1850 possibly in India but I suspect it would be more likely England.
He was in the Pacific acting as a ships doctor when he arrived in
NZ about 1998. He had reputedly trained as a doctor in Heidelberg
but just before finishing the course he was in an accident that
prevented his graduating. He died in NZ in 1930. 'Linwood' I believe
was a false name. I am unable to trace him through his marriage or
death certificate.
