Many thanks to all who suggested the Carlisle History website, concerning my enquiry about burial records!
Actually, I had already seen this and was chasing up further details about a couple of people listed there. I really need to know the "official" section/ward/plot numbers, to see if they are possibly buried near to those family members I have already placed.
I had identified a member of my family from this website and confirmed the details on the burial registers at Carlisle library but was unable to find any trace of a headstone ( which had been alluded to via the website). I marched up and down and back and forth for a good 45 mins,( hubby had given up and gone back to the car to rest his weary feet!) to no avail. So, I checked with the cemetary office staff, and they were able to tell me that according to their official records no headstone had been erected!
On my return home from Carlisle, I contacted the website owner to confirm such a headstone really existed and was subsequently advised that, for a sum of money, I could be furnished with a photograph of this "headstone" - !?! I am intrigued to know which particular headstone would actually be photographed!
Meanwhile, after the post-Christmas flooding in Carlisle, I'm also wondering whether the Richardson Street site escaped being water-logged!
Regards, Sue H
