My index of Auckland St. Helen has a christening of Hannah Howson for 1 July
1832, mother Susannah, no father. That usually means illegitimate birth.
The actual parish records will most likely indicate this as either spelling
it out as Illegitimate or the kinder way - that the mother's occupation is a
single woman.

On an upbeat note Susannah Howson married James Cherry at St. Helen's 2 Oct
1837.

Unless there are bastardy records for this birth you will probably not find
out who the father was.

1841, West Auckland Town (HO 107/307/3/folio 40)
James Cherry, 25, Coal Miner, N
Susanna Cherry, 30, N
Hannah Cherry, 9, Y
John Cherry, 5, Y
Thomas Cherry, 3, Y
Margaret Cherry, 11 months, Y

John's christening is not the the Auckland St. Helen's record but Thomas
Cherry's is.

Regards,

Janis
