Hi everyone,
The maiden name is a surname that a woman in Ontario (could be all of
Canada) can use at any time. For example, when there is a separation in a
marriage, the woman can, if she wishes, immediately revert back to using her
maiden name, without going through the legal courts or wait for a divorce.
She can also simply choose to go back to using the maiden name for no
particular reason. Changing from a married name to maiden name on a driver
license, etc. simply requires showing a birth certificate with the maiden
name.
