Thanks to all.

Obviously the next thing is to try and find them in the 1841 census. I've
looked on the Northumberland & Durham Family History Society and they don't
seem to have the 1841 census of the relevant area. Does anyone know if
there is a name index of the area? Failing that I am not averse to ploughing
though all the necessary pages.

Can these be purchased anywhere?

I have found the family from 1851 onwards.

There used to be Walton , St Patrick's , High , Numbers , Wear , Assembly
and even a Potato Garth
The latter I think is still called that to this day as it was recently said
in the Echo , the local paper ,that a boat came into Potato Garth Cheers Pat
