Stan

thanks - that is very interesting. Miles Abstemious Pearson (Frederic's
father) is a draper's assistant at the time of his son's birth in 1874,
having married Lydia Mary Arnett the year before. Lydia's father, George
Arnett, was a draper or hosier at 23 High Street from about 1850 onwards.
Later he shows as a stationer even though he seems not to have been able to
write. They all end up in Borrowby by 1881, then back to Sunderland by 1890
(George dies in Borrowby in 1887) when Miles was living at 11 Kensington
Terrace (but missing from the 1891 census). In 1901 everyone bar Frederic
is in Sunderland or Stockton but Miles and Lydia die in Borrowby in the
1920s. They seem to be always on the move.
