Maybe this gives a better explanation than I managed. Sounds as if a
firewall makes it difficult to access - I don't know, as I don't have one.

To tell the truth, I've had so much rather unpleasant email after posting
what I thought would be a useful piece of information that I don't think
I'll bother again. Rather sad, it seems to me - as if people thought I was
making it up or something!

Ah well, there are 'Grumblies' on most lists, I guess - this was just my
first lot of first-hand experience of them.

Gloria,

Thanx for posting this information. This is a GREAT site!!

The real gem at this site is not Ancestry but access to Gale's other
databases which include among others the " Eighteenth Century Collections".
Don't
miss the opportunity to search the full text of 150,000 books in this
collection and the other Gale databases.

How long would it take you to search 150,000 books at the Library?

Eighteenth Century Collections Online
Provides access to the digital images of every page of 150,000 books
published during the 18th Century. With full-text searching of
approximately 33
million pages, the product allows researchers new methods of access to
critical
information in the fields of history, literature, religion, law, fine arts,

science and more.

One sample: The full text of ALL 21 Vol.'s

Sinclair, John, Sir, The statistical account of Scotland. Drawn up from the

communications of the ministers of the different parishes. By Sir John
Sinclair, ... Edinburgh, 1791-99. 530 pp. Vol. 1 of 21 (21 vols. available).
