Hi,
I am in the US and our state library lost the right to provide free access to Ancestry Plus from home because people who thought they were being helpful, put the information on how to access it on the message boards and Ancestry cancelled our library's subscription for too high access. I don't know if they refunded any of the price our library paid for it, but I know we only had access for about a week before they shut it down.
This trial may be offered for patrons of a certain library or service and if the way to access it keeps going around the message boards, Ancestry may just cancel Gale's right to offer this trial. Our free access also went through Gale.
Now maybe the person who was being kind and sharing this information already checked with Gale and made sure it was ok to put this information on the message boards, but for anyone else who wants to be helpful, I would suggest getting permission before passing out access information for Ancestry Plus.
We here in Michigan were very disappointed to lose our access only one week after getting it, and all from someone trying to be kind. Well, lots of someone's trying to be kind. You did need a Michigan driver's license or library card to access it, but people put it all over all the Michigan message boards and the site was hit hard with use of the free site. Not sure how Ancestry was allowed to shut it down, but they did and it never was offered from home free again for us. We can still get it free at our library, just not from home.
So, please, I am not complaining here, just concerned because now I see this information on two boards I am on, and this trial could end early if there are too many people using it, unless the intent was to get as many people using the trial as possible.
