Hi Pat
The articoe is online at
http://property.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,14049-1309522,00.html If
that doesn't work try the first part of the address. The property
supplement is called "Bricks & Mortar".

Hello Pat
There was a full page article about Saddlewood in the Times property
supplement yesterday. I don't know whether these go on-line.
Apparently the house is owned by Sandy & Linda SCOTT who bought it with
20 acres and have since expanded this to 172. It doesn't say when they
bought it but a previous owner apparently used half of one tithe barn
(there are two) for his collection of cars. There are 14 outbuildings
including a dovecote with 1000 nesting boxes. I expect that is original.
A farm cottage has been converted into a housekeeper's house - I wonder
whether this is the one who showed you around!
The date of the house is 1690, just as the first Duke of Beaufort was
completing his great country palace. Saddlewood however does not appear
on the Badminton estate maps. Apparently the Georgians did not touch it
and the Victorians made only additions, not alterations. So, it remains
an unaltered William & Mary house. That's what the article says but I
can't help thinking that 6 bedrooms all with their own bathrooms with
the master bedroom having 2 bathrooms, does not sound very original to
me!
Perhaps we could all club together and buy it.....

Very interesting Carole and thanks for letting us know that it's on the
market. If only .......!
My Frankcoms lived in a cottage adjacent to the manor but it had been
replaced when I visited there a few years ago. Robert has pictures of
both cottages on his site along with photos of the manor. It brings back
some memories for me. A Canadian Frankcom cousin and I visited the
property about 20 years ago and the drive was lined with daffodils. The
house was empty and we were able to have a good look around and take
photos. Some years later on another visit I wrote to the then owner who
kindly organised his housekeeper to show me over the manor house. He
had not long owned it and had recently had it refurbished. It was very
impressive with its double staircases but appears to have had more work
done on it since I saw it. It looks a lot more elegant now.
