A very successful New Year to All Listers

I hope to put the following down, so that it makes sense to all.

Walter Law joine the Royal Navy 3/10/1863, aged 14 yrs. A BOY
Joined HMS Cornwallis. 5/10/1863. Date of signing for C.S/Gen Service

Sept 1867.

Married Elizabeth Taylor Dec. 1869 Rock Ferry, Birkenhead, Cheshire.
His address HMS Excellent, Which was a Gunnery Training Ship

Portsea Portsmouth

Walter fathers a child who is born, January 1871, Portsea
Portsmouth. Again his address HMS Excellent.

As Walter comes from Sheffield Yorks, How can he have met his
wife?

Today I found my way to a website with the name of our friend Bernard de
Neumann attached. The title being Training Ships
Nautical Schools

On the Site I found a Ship by the Name of AKBAR located Mersey Rock
ferry 200 Pupils opened June 1855 Closed 1908

In the remarks column it says HMS Cornwallis Renamed AKBAR in 1812 and
used for quarantine Service from 1827 to 1855. In 1862
replaced

By Wellington which took her name. At the risk of seeming
to be a dimwit (smile) could someone please tell me if?

A Did Wellington take the name of AKBAR OR the name of
Wellington.

B Would she still be a training ship in Rock Ferry. In 1863.?
( I have Walter joining Cornwallis in 1863 ) to lets say 1869

If Walter did his four year Naval Training at Rock Ferry this would
explain how he met his wife.

As I am trying to trace his movements from joining in 1863 through to
his death aboard HMS Blanche Samoa in 1875 this could be a good find
for me.

On one document, I think it is the Excellent it states 19 April
69-June 69, and in the next column Whither it says D of Wellington.

Can it be the Wellington that replaced AKBAR/Cornwallis.

I would be Grateful for any help on this.

Bernard Law Sorry to confuse you. Hope this one gets to
you complete.
