I'm pretty sure that Family Allowance (later Child Allowance) didn't start
till after the war, and it was initially 5/-, not 7/-. I don't think this
had anything to do with payments for evacuees. I can still remember as a
small girl going with my mother to the P.O. to collect our first week's
Family Allowance.
