I've only encountered one instance of an objection to Banns: in
a Somerset Parish where it was recorded in the Banns Book that
another man claimed a prior right! If I recall correctly, the
prospective groom married someone else within weeks, so in order
to satisfy my fertile imagination I investigated recent deaths in
the parish and formed an opinion that the groom might have needed
to marry in haste to claim an inheritance from a wealthy
benefactor of the same name.
The burial of Richard PRISMORE 1816 and the Banns concerning Mary
PRISMORE 1822 were the only two mentions of that surname or
anything similar I encountered in the Vernham Dean PRs, and I
particularly checked the burials 1813-1864. However, I have
since noted an IGI record of a next generation marriage between
William PRISMALL 29 to Rachel HOLDER 21 on 18th June 1854 at
Vernham Dean.
