There doesn't seem to be a Death entry for any Maria/Mary Allen in
Dec Qtr 1886 in FreeBMD. There is an entry for Maria Talmage age 81 in
Kingsclere RD Dec Qtr 1886. Benjamin (76) & Maria (75) Talmage were
living in Ox Drove, Burghclere in 1881

I have this Maria dying in Ecchinswell in Jan 1874 and buried at St.
Lawrence on 24 Jan. I have her as not marrying but having an
illegitimate child Charles in 1823. The age of 77 given in burial
register is consistent with a birth in 1797.

The evidence from Census records 1851-1881 is that Maria Talmage was
born ca1806 in Hannington.

The Death entry from BMD is also consistent with a birth in 1806

The marriage entry for Benjamin & Maria records him as being of
Burghclere & Maria of Sidmonton.

in 1851 William, Rachel and Hannah Allen are living in Sidmonton and
from what you say Sidmonton seems to have been their 'home' parish.
This is consistent with Maria being of Sidmonton when she married and
so being the daughter of William & Rachel.

I think it unlikely that a Maria Allen born in Burghclere in 1797
would consistently give her birth place as Hannington and born 9
years later.

The BTs for Hannington only have one Allen baptism in the
period 1800-1812 plus the marriage of William & Rachel 3 months
before the baptism of Maria.

So I have to disagree with Nigel on this one.
