Hi Mike and List,
Thanks for the more accurate information. It just shows the importance of
consulting and checking primary sources. I will mark up my copy of the book
with the corrections. There is another correction - the book says John
Bayman had 11 labourers on the farm but when I look at the census record, it
does look more like a 4 than 11, with a very faint cross bar on top of the
printed census ruler line.
At that time four labs would be about right for ca 100 acres, 11 is difficult
to believe.
The farm was in the Manor of Inhurst and sadly the Inhurst court rolls no
longer exist unlike Baughurst next door which was part of the Manor of
Manydown. If the court rolls had survived they would offer much information.
