this is of course the 1881 Census when John has a wife Ann born 'Cole
Ash', Berks and a dau Ellen age 1 born Ealing.

I have checked the full BMD Marriages from 1866-1871 with no sign of
a Thomas Prangle/Prangell/Pragnell BUT Mar Qtr 1871 is missing and I
suspect this could be why we are unable to find his marriage.
There is a Thomas Prangle in Droxford RD, Dec Qtr 1866 but he has to
be the Thomas born ca1844 in Hambledon who also had a wife Mary
I did find Thomas at Stockbridge in 1851 Census in household of Henry
& Sarah PRANGELL, both born Broughton.
The Hants Marr Index has a marrriage at Broughton on 20 Feb 1828 of
Henry PRAGNELL and Sarah Cooper. This date fits with eldest dau Ann
being born ca 1839 (ie age 12 in 1841 census at Stockbridge when
surname was recorded as Prangle)
There are no deaths recorded 1871-1881 for any of these surname
variations. I haven't checked later dates but it does seem something
happened to Thomas & Mary that caused Alfred to be lodging with
John Aldridge in 1881.
Alfred PRAGNGLE apears in the 1901 Census in Southall, Middx with a
wife Ellen age 21 born Ealing and in household is Louisa Aldridge,
sister age 17,
Marriages Mar 1900: Aldridge Ellen & Prangle Alfred, Uxbridge
(3a 50), so he married the dau of John & Ann Aldridge it would
seem.
I am not sure who Ann is as yet. There is a marriage in Brentford RD
Jun Qtr 1876 to an Ann Hyde but the only Ann Hyde born ca1849 is in
Ealing RD which clashes with census entries which give her birth
place as Cold Ash, Berks.
1891 Census has John & Ann living in Williams Rd, Ealing with 3
children, Ellen 11, Alice 9 & Louisa 7
All this would seem to confirm Dorothy's idea that Mary was the
sister of John and both were children of George Aldridge & Caroline
Bozley.
I have recorded these details in my database and will update
the online site later.
