I wonder if anyone has access to 1861/1871 census indexes for Romsey. I am in the process of writing up the family history and have come accorss what I think could have been a mis-direction!
My husbands grandfather was George oliver Russen born in 1865 (in Southampton) his father was George Russen (married to Eliza Butt).This George was born Romsey 1842,father Richard Russen.
In 1881 cnesus i have a George Russen aged 42born Romsey as a Steward on board ship. I thought he and George above were one and the same.HOWEVER! on double checking i have my George with his wife Eliza back in Romsey,plus he was a bricklayer.
I am just interested to see where 'ship George' was in 1871/61.Is there a record for a george Russen born c1841 in Romsey?
Sorry if this seems muddled but I think I have got lost with too many George Russens!.
