Hello List,

I'm looking for George Gilbert, b. about 1815 Emsworth. The IGI doesn't show any entries for Emsworth in Hampshire or Sussex. Can anyone tell if the borders changed, and how I can find records for him. The 1881 Census shows him aged 66 in Ventnor, IOW, place of birth Emsworth. My brick wall, Richard Gilbert, born about 1775, possibly related to George, says he was "of the Parish of Portsmouth" in his wedding banns at Brook. Would Emsworth then have been part of the "Parish of Portsmouth?" Thanks for any help.
