Hi Caroline,
assuming the entry was correct, 'Sutton, Hampshire' was probably Sutton
Scotney a village on the River Dever, about 8 miles NE of Winchester.
Sutton is an extremely common name, though (meaning 'south farm') and there
may have been other less-well-known places.
The petition to King William IV for parliamentary reform in 1830 was drawn
up here at the White Swan Inn in Sutton Square, the precursor of the 'Swing
Riots' for which many were transported.
Sarah Stent probably attended Holy Trinity church at Wonston as I don't know
of a church at that time within Sutton, which was in Wonston parish.
I haven't found any Stents in Sutton of that period, they tended to live to
the east in places like Odiham and Liphook.
Regards, David
