Hallo Linda
I have been following your postings of Strays from 1851 with interest,
hoping to see a Buck or a Grainger, specifically Eliza Buck, nee Grainger,
who married James Buck in 1836, according to the IGI. I don't yet know
where, because the entry said only "of London" and no church was given.
Eliza was a witness for her sister Mary's marriage to George Langford at St
Marylebone in 1840. Both sisters had been born in Hereford.
None of those people are direct ancestors: I'm hoping to find a link to
Eliza and Mary's brother, my great-grandfather William Grainger, tailor, and
show that he was in London in 1841. He was back in Hereford in 1851, where
he married a daughter of a family who had been living in Prebend Street in
present day London N1, which includes Islington, the source of some of your
postings.. William remained in Hereford for the rest of his life.
At the FRC, I have checked several areas of the 1841 Census around Prebend
Street without success, and seeing your postings I'm hoping that any Bucks,
Langfords or Graingers in 1851 might give me a lead into the 1841 -- ever
the optimist!.
(Sorry if I missed something on the HEF list earlier: Are you transcribing
the 1851 for a project or searching it for your own interests?)
I'll keep looking out for your messages, and if I can do anything for you in
Lancs, please let me know.
Kind regards, Bert Pemberton in Blackpool (HFHS no 1838).
