Hello,
A little late on this thread, but was wondering if anyone has a
situation where a boarder became a family member? Or rather just stayed
on with a family? I have a young girl, born in a work house being a
boarder with a family at aged 12. I have seen lots of other young
boarders in census, sometimes several in the same house. Would these
have just been cheap labour, or would they have come as quite a young
child and stayed till they could be off on their own. Surely a 12 year
old wouldn't be paying for her board, but rather working for it? Any
enlightenment gratefully accepted.
Thanks
