Hello List,
I have found my Thomas Wren on the 1881 census, Head, occupation
coachbuilder, with wife and three young children, address the Bull Inn,
Wheathampton.
Also living at the Bull Inn were three other families with heads of
household, various occupations, one with a large family including a
lodger and two domestic servants. All four families listed as though in
separate residences. Was this usual?
I have found a photo of the Bull Inn on the web and it looks like a
normal inn, the licensed victualler in 1881 was a 70 year old woman
(name Eliza Hooper listed as male :-P ) with two relatives, one employed
as a bank clerk, and one servant, ostler (inn).
Would love to know more about this sort of living arrangement.
Thanks,
Judy (in Sydney)
