Subject: POOLE TOMLINS GLAZEBROOK PARKER + ' BATH TAVERN' all IRONBRIDGE
Date: Fri, 14 May 2004 14:10:26 +1200
I apologise if this has come through previously, but I have no
indication that it has. According to the Ironbridge 1851census my
ggggrandfather Thomas Poole was born in Madeley, SAL. in 1785/6, but I
cant find anything to confirm this. His children: John, Edwin, Mary Ann,
Frederick, Edmund, Charles, Harriot, George and Richard were all chr at
Madeley St. Michaels 1807-25. A John Poole m Mary PARKER at Madeley
St. Michaels 20 Apr 1779, then a John and Mary Pool (no 'e') were
parents to a Thomas Parker Pool chr. 5 Mar 1786 in Broseley, then a John
and Mary Pool were parents to a John Parker Pool chr. in Madeley
St.Michaels 30 Oct 1790. Does anyone have access to records which shows
what the 'Town Crier or China Painter' Thomas Poole's second christian
name is(if he did have one), so I can confirm or eliminate the Parker
link. In the Ironbridge 1851 census, my Thomas (and his wife Isabella
[nee GLAZEBROOK] and 3 sons) lived in the main street at no. 51
(probably a census no.), he was 65 yrs old, occupation Town Crier and
hairdresser. At no. 54, Bath Tavern, one of his other sons Frederick
lived, occupation Innkeeper, with his wife Martha (nee TOMLINS) and
children Thomas William and Eliza Ann. (In 1877 the Bath Tavern was
sold to Wm Smeeton). In the 1861 census Frederic(k) was an Innkeeper in
Jackfield. My Thomas Poole b 1785/6 was a china painter from 1807-23,
then a hairdresser, according to chr. records. His wedding bestman was
John Roden. A John Roden and a Thomas Poole were malsters in Wellington
in 1828 according to 'Inns of 1828'; are these different people? Can
anyone in Ironbridge please help me in regard to Thomas' second
christian name, Bath Tavern, Glazebrook or Tomlins families. Other
