This is well worth looking at for details of Wills since 1858.
Apparently there are copies of the calendars available, and you can
order copies of the wills from offices in Birmingham, Brighton,
Bristol, Cardiff, Ipswich, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle
Upon Tyne, Oxford, Winchester as well as Holborn.
However it goes on to say "The only place where there is a complete
set of calendars [from 1858] available for public inspection is First
Avenue House in London. Most District Probate Registries have
calendars covering at least the last fifty years. If you intend to
visit a Registry specifically to look at the records, you are
recommended to contact the Registry beforehand [a list of addresses
and telephone numbers appears on the site] to check what is
available."
There is also a postal search service from an address in York.
The fees in each case are £5 for a copy of the Will, which includes a
4 year search in the case of the postal search.
No mention of the iniquitous £15!
