Hello everyone
I give below some information from the minutes of the September
meeting of the Kent History Federation. The information all comes from
the Record Offices concerned. I don't have any further information
about these items so if you want to know more, please look at the
approprite website.

The Centre of Kentish Studies at Maidstone.
The Centre of Kentish Studies at Maidstone is closing for stocktaking
next year for the second two weeks in January
The archive from Oakwood Hospital in Maidstone ( the original Barming
Asylum) has now been fully catalogued at CKS at Maidstone and can be
consulted at CKS under reference MD/MH2. Some categories of records
which contain personal and medical information will be closed for 100
years.
The plan to get volunteers to transcribe the Kent Tithe apportionments
has gone into abeyance at the moment due to staffing problems.

Canterbury Cathedral Archives
An Exhibition will be held at Canterbury Cathedral Archives on 20-22
October 2000, entitled 'Fourteen Centuries of the Cathedral Archive
and Library. This is part of the Canterbury Festival. Opening hours
9am - 5pm.
Canterbury Cathedral Archives will be closed for the first two weeks
of January 2001.

The East Kent Archives Centre.
The new East Kent Archives Centre is now open 2 days a week (Tuesday &
Thursday) and will be open from 3 days a week from 2 January 2001.
The records of Lydd town council have been transferred to the East
Kent Archives Centre as part of a Heritage Lottery Funded project to
catalogue and microfilm the collection. The work is due to be
completed by the end of 2000 and the complete catalogue and collection
should be available at EKAC from January 2001.

Medway Archives and Local Studies.
Medway Archives will be closed for stocktaking beginning Monday 6th
November and re-opening Monday 20th November.
There is an exhibition '1000 years of Medway History' which is based
on material from the Medway Archives and Local Studies collection and
will run until 24th October.
Their Local Studies has acquired the GRO indexes (b.m.d) from
1881-1914.

Bexley Local Studies
Bexley Local Studies at Bexleyheath Central Library is now open on
Sundays. Sorry I don't have any details of times.
The archivist recently received some important early records of All
Saints Church, Foots Cray dating as far back as 1806.
