As there appear to be more members subscribed, thought I would try another
query on my SOUNDY ancestry.

John SOUNDY b. 1773 Mitcham Surrey, was a calico printer who settled in
crayford. He died 28 December 1840 & I have his will. His wife was Sarah
FRY, and I have her ancestry - much of which is detailed on an MI in St
Paulinus Churchyard. John and Sarah had several sons of which my ancestor
was Francis, bap 10 Feb 1805 in Crayford.

Francis' occupation as shown on baptismal records of his first few children
born around the London metropolitan area was a butcher. His ?first child
was born 3 Nov 1826 at the Lyin-in Hospital in Endell St, Holborn. His
wife's name was Eliza. I have not yet been able to find a record of their
marriage, however her surname was GAUNTLETT as shown on the birth cert of
last child Sarah Gauntlett SOUNDY, [who was conveniently born 1838 after
civil reg]. I believe [but have no evidence] that Eliza may have been born
1802 at Portsea Hants, the dau of George and Anna GAUNTLETT, who were to be
found at St Paul, Deptford having children baptised in 1807 [according to
IGI]. I would guess that Francis and Eliza would probably have married 1825
or 1826 - but where? Has anyone come across this couple or maybe know
anything of the Gauntlett family?

I would also be interested to know if anyone has come across the children of
John's brother James SOUNDY who died ? in Kent before 1825. Their father,
also a John in his will dated 1 Jan 1825 left bequests to the children of
his late son James [wife: Phoebe]: Mary HASSEN or KASSEN (b. 1802 Dartford);
William and Thomas when they came of age. As the boys collected in 1830, am
guessing they were born about 1807-1809. However, have not found their
births, nor Mary's marriage, nor James' death.

Any and all clues gratefully received & also happy to hear from anyone else
who may have connections with a SOUNDY family. Many thanks for taking the
trouble to read through this.
