Hi Keith,

Visualise an A4 scanner with the lid up/off. Now if the light were on all
the time, as opposed to only when it is scanning a document, with a switch
to switch the light on or off. Then the fiche in a glass/perspex envelope
is placed on top of the scanner/light box with a ruler used to keep a
straight line. The microscope without its converting stand is then held
above the "light box" and the magnification and the focus adjusted to
obtain the sharpest image. Without a light box, I have proved that the
principle works, but the depth of vision is not great and perhaps something
like the "helping hands" might be better to clamp the microscope in a fixed
position.

Some one with woodwork skills would be able to make a small wooden light
box on which to place the sandwiched fiche, with a low power, low heat
emitting (low voltage?) bulb to provide the back light.

Even using the light from a lap top I have been able to show that the
principle works.

Phil.
