Hello and thank you Ted John & Johnny for confirming what the local paper
was, also for narrowing down considerably the years to search in,I will let you
know If I manage to find what I am looking for, Ted I used to live the other
end of Creek Rd opposite Creek Rd School, small world.
I remember staying in Creek Road with my Grandmother at 141A in the mid
1950s and the trams certainly ran past the window then. It was one of those old
buildings that I think would have been quite gentile if it had been anywhere
else. Downstairs was a living room and a kitchen with the privy out the back.
There were bedrooms on the next two floors.

Going to the front door, there were steps up to the main door and steps down
into the basement. The landlord agreed to modernise the building by
installing electricity, but only to the basement area - so that was where the living
room was; the rest of the house was lit by gas. That was OK until 1953 when
the storm on the East Coast caused so much damage downriver and the Creek
(River Ravensbourne) to overflow its banks and flood the area.

So if anyone has knowledge of the DOBBIN family (there were a lot of
children!) or the MANNINGs (who I believe lived nearby) I would be grateful for
anything you could tell me.
