Hi Joan. Yes there was a maternity home called Havercroft and it was on the
junction of Chorley New Road and Victoria Road. I am pretty sure the house
is still there but the land that was in front of it onto Chorley New Road
has a few houses on and I am not sure if what was the maternity home is
still just behind them. It was certainly open as a maternity home from 1951
to 1963 and at a guess it probably closed in the early 1970's when they
centralised all the maternity care into the maternity unit at Bolton
General. I am sure of the 1951 to 1963 dates as I and all my brothers and
sister were born there
Hope this helps
Linda Hindley
