Subject: [ENG-LANCS-PRESTON] Little Hulton study
Date: Tue, 05 Oct 2010 17:24:27 -0500 (CDT)

Hello,
I'm relatively new to this list. I am interested in
William Bradley who according to the LancashireOPC Baptism lists
was baptised in Deane parish 24 Mar 1815 and is said to be of Little Hulton.
I was studying and comparing the BMDs on LancashireBMD.org Bolton area (then
picking out the Little Hulton items) and comparing them
to the records on LancashireOPC site, Deane parish.
I expected to see some records mentioned in both.
Shouldn't there be?
William Bradley above is found in the 1850 US census in Pennsylvania as age
35y with a wife Alice and no children.
From family lore and some US death certs, Alice's maiden name is supposed to
be Howard/Howarth.
He is again found in the 1860 US census, but by 1871 he is back in the UK,
in Dukinfield Staleybridge Cheshire with a new wife Ellen Seddon Hardman
Bradley.
William's first wife Alice died in 1869 Norbury Cheshire. William married
Ellen in July 1870. On his marriage certificate he names his father as
Thomas Bradley a miner, and
his place of birth as Little Hulton.
What I was doing today was to try to determine the Bradley births in Little
Hulton 1837 to 1850 and determine family groups, especially since the
LancashireBMD has mothers maiden name. Not always true in FreeBMD and
LancsOPCs.
There was one set of births who looked promising:
All these are Bradley's in Little Hulton Bolton who had mothers maiden name
as Howarth:
Mary 1839
Elizabeth 1841
Giles 1843 died 1843 at age 0
Josiah 1844
Asa 1847 died 1849 age 1
James 1849 died 1849 age 0.
Has anyone here ever studied the Bradley's in Little Hulton? Occupation
could be Colliers. In the US William was a miner and brick manufacturer.
Can anyone here determine for me who the father was in this family group in
1841 or 1851?
That's when I went back to the LancsOPC records to see if there was a
marriage record for Bradley/Howarth pre 1839 (birth of Mary)
and could find no good hits.
Anyone care to comment or help me?
Bella
