Hi to All

I have just subscribed to the list and this is my first posting.

My specific interest in Lincs is with my GGGFather Thomas Decimus Franklyn originating from Potten Beds..

Thomas Decimus Franklyn left the army (38th Foot) as a Captain and unmarried in 1823. He had a first daughter Jessy Franklyn born Kilburn London and the baptism record from St James Paddington 20 Dec 1826 lists her mother as Mary.

There is no record of the marriage in Paddington nor on the IGI over the whole country.

A further three children were born in Lincoln. They were Mary Sophie Franklyn born C 1829, Thomas Franklyn born C 1832 and Sarah born C 1834. (DOBs calculated from ages on 1851 census not living in Lincoln at this time). This census entry also includes Sarah Dauber as his Mother in Law DOB C 1785 born in Lincoln.

I have an IGI marriage record for Thomas Decimus Franklyn and Mary Iron in 1835 in Clee Old Lincs. I do not believe a gentleman such as Thomas would have lived with a lady for C 10 years and had 4 children before marrying her so I assume that Mary Iron was a second wife and that Mary 1 died C 1834 during the birth of Sarah.

So I believe his first wife was Mary (probably Dauber) and they originated from Lincoln. Am I ringing any bells with anybody. If so I would love to hear from you.
