Hi Peter and Liverpool, I expected a lot of replies to the original quiery, maybe the Lister did get a lot. When I enquired of an old relaitve from L'pool he said the name came from the Norwegian sailors who were frequent visitor to Liverpool in the 1850's. It was the name for their stew. On good days the stew was made with the bone from the leg of lamb. poorer times it came 'blind', without the meat.
Any better/more accurate explanations?
