Dear Listers:

I have just received a birth cert from 1851 on which the mother's info is listed as: Alice Goodison, late Burtis, formerly McGivern.
Now this appears to me to mean that she maried twice, first to Burtis, then Goodison. Has anyone else come across this on a birth cert, and if so, I am guessing correctly or could there be another explanation? I am currently waiting for the mcert to arrive.
